Taiwanese machine tool manufacturers have made great strides in upgrading their products over the past several years, and the fruit of their labors was on display at the 12th Taipei International Machine Tool Show March 15-20, co-organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI).According to TAITRA, of the foreign visitors, 2,034 were from Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and India.Of them, 127 were from 18 foreign countries, including Japan, the United States, Germany and Switzerland.As the euro has appreciated over the past year, many euro zone buyers have shifted their orders to Taiwan, as evidenced by the fact that Turkish and Italian buyers to the show numbered 276 and 101 respectively, with many more buyers from Germany, France, Finland and Russia.Commanding the spotlight at this year's show were machine tools such as lathes with multiple axes and functions, high-precision forming machine tools and linear-motor machining centers.Of particular importance for the development of Taiwan's machine tool industry has been mastery of linear motor technology in combination with computerized control systems.
